Zeno of Nicomedia

St Zeno (Zenon or Zinon) (Died 303) was a Roman soldier and Regiment Commander at Nicomedia in Bithynia (modern-day Izmit), Turkey.

St Zeno is said to have laughed as Emperor Diocletian (284-305) offered sacrifice to a statue of the Roman goddess Ceres. Diocletian, who infamously introduced a general persecution of all Christians, had him arrested, his jaw shattered and then beheaded.

St Zeno’s Feast Day is the 22nd December. He is also commemorated among the 20,000 Martyrs of Nicomedia whose Feast Day is the 28th December.
