St Vincent Ferrer

St Vincent was born into a noble family in Palamos, Costa Brava, Spain. His family’s wealth and status meant he received a good education. As a young boy, he showed very mature religious practices including, helping the poor, fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays and maintaining a strong devotion to the Passion of Christ.

At 14yrs, he joined the Dominicans as a novitiate; studying and memorising large sections of Scripture. At 29yrs, he was ordained a Catholic Priest but continued studying and lecturing, gaining a Doctorate in Theology. For the next 21yrs, St Vincent travelled throughout the United Kingdom and much of Europe, preaching and teaching. His tireless work led to the conversion of many to Christianity.

St Vincent’s Feast Day is the 5th April, the day of his death. He is the Patron Saint of Spanish orphanages, builders, construction workers, plumbers and Brittany fishermen.
