John Baptises Jesus

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 1 – The Prophet John The Baptist

John the Baptist was busy preaching and baptising by the River Jordan when unexpectedly Jesus arrived. He approached John and insisted that John also baptised Him.

John, only reluctantly did so, feeling that he was unworthy to baptise the Son of God.

As he finished, a dove descended from heaven and a voice from the skies announced, “This is my Son; in him, I take great delight”. (Mt 3:13-17, Mk 1:9-11, Lk 3:21-22, Jn 1:29-34)

Thought
Diagrammatic representation of the Holy Trinity

Jesus’ baptism was a momentous occasion; all three persons in our one God were present:

God the Father – as the voice from heaven,
God the Son – as Jesus being baptised and,
God the Holy Spirit – as the Dove from the sky.

Reflection
Baptism of Jesus

One God, three persons; the Holy Trinity. Thank you for my faith.

Prayer: Holy Spirit

Most Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore You.
Enlighten me, guide me, comfort me, console me.
I promise to submit myself to all You desire of me,
And permit all You wish to happen to me.
Give me Your help, tell me what to do.
Most Holy Spirit, bring peace to my world. Amen.
