Chapter 11 – Jesus at the Feast of Tabernacles (St John)
Story No. 3 of 13 (John 7:14-39)
During the second half of the week-long Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus, who had secretly travelled to Jerusalem, went to the Temple Courts and openly taught the crowds. This was despite knowing some wanted to kill him.
The people were astonished at his preaching saying, “How can this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?” Jesus answered, “My teaching is not from me, but from the one who sent me”.
Jesus then asked them, “Why do you want to kill me?” The crowd answered, “You’re possessed by a demon! Who is trying to kill you?”
Although many believed Jesus and his teachings saying, “Whenever the Christ comes, he won’t perform more miraculous signs than this man did, will he?” others tried to seize Him but, “No one laid a hand on him because his time had not yet come”.
Often we allow ourselves to hide among a crowd, rather than do as our conscious tells us!
Will I show my faith to everyone I meet today?
Lord God, strengthen my faith. Help me to proudly go about my work spreading your good news.
Prayer: Sweet Jesus (St Thomas Aquinas)
Sweet Jesus, Body and Blood most Holy,
be the delight and pleasure of my soul,
my strength and salvation in all temptations,
my joy and peace in every trial,
my light and guide in every word and deed,
and my final protector in death. Amen.
|Music Suggestion: In Christ Alone|
Listen and reflect… pause and talk.
Today in 1844, the last pair of Great Auks (Similar to Penguins) was killed.
Pray that people will respect and take care of our beautiful world and all its living creatures.
