Chapter 6 – The Sermon on the Mount
Story No. 6 of 34 (Matthew 9:18-26, Mark 5:21-43, Luke 8:40-56)
Jairus, a Synagogue Ruler, went to Jesus, fell at his feet and begged him to urgently help his twelve-year-old daughter; she was near to death. Jesus agreed, but on his way to her home, news reached him that she had died.
Jesus insisted that she was just sleeping saying, “Do not be afraid, just believe”. The crowd “ridiculed” Jesus but He continued on his journey.
When Jesus arrived at her home, He took the child’s parents and three of his disciples into her room. He then took the girl by the hand and said, “Talitha koum,” which is Aramaic for, “Little girl, I say to you, get up”. To the astonishment of everyone, the little girl returned to life.
Lord, nothing is impossible for you.
Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith and give me the wisdom to ask for your help with complete trust.
Prayer: Faith (St Benedict)
Gracious and Holy Father,
give us the wisdom to discover You,
the intelligence to understand You,
the diligence to seek after You,
the patience to wait for You,
eyes to behold You,
a heart to meditate upon You,
and a life to proclaim You,
through the power of the Spirit of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
