Challenged by Pilate, Jesus replied, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my servants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities…
You say that I am a king. For this reason, I was born, and for this reason, I came into the world – to testify to the truth”. (John 18:36-37)
It was one of the very few occasions that Jesus responded to his judges, torturers and executioners!
Jesus acknowledged that He was Christ the King – I am the Truth, I am a King. However, He was not a king with an earthly status of great material pomp and splendour. Instead, He was the King of the Kingdom of God.
Lord Jesus, You are my King. All that exists was created by your Father in Heaven. I renounce all that is evil and seek to live only by your teachings. Amen.
Prayer: Let Nothing Disturb You (St Teresa of Avila)
Let nothing disturb you,
let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing,
God never changes.
attains all things.
Whom God possesses,
nothing is wanting.
Alone God suffices.
