Jesus appointed twelve (whom he named Apostles), “So that they would be with him and he could send them to preach and have authority to cast out demons”. (Mark 3:14-15)
The Apostles were handed a heavy responsibility which, apart from Judas, they dutifully carried.
Do I carry my responsibilities; caring for my brothers and sisters, the poor, sick and outcasts?
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to your abandoned people. Give me the strength to accept your appointment. May today be a pouring of myself on those whom I avoid.
A Prayer – The Sick
Lord Jesus Christ,
you bore our sufferings and carried our sorrows.
In order to show us clearly,
the value of human weakness and patience,
graciously hear our prayers for the sick.
Grant that those who are weighed down,
with pain and other afflictions of illness,
may realise that they are among the chosen ones,
whom you call blessed.
Help them to understand,
that they are united with you in your sufferings,
for the salvation of the world. Amen.
