Antonio Lucci

(1681-1752)

Blessed Antonio was born in Isernia, Italy. He attended his local Franciscan school and at 16, joined the Order. He completed his studies for the priesthood in Assisi and was ordained a Priest in 1705.

Following further studies, Blessed Antonio received a Doctorate in Theology and was appointed Professor in a series of Universities. In 1729, Pope Benedict chose him as Bishop of Bovino saying, “I have chosen… an eminent theologian and a great Saint.” Blessed Antonio Lucci remained in his role as Shepherd of his flock for 23 years while writing and compiling major works of theology.

His Feast Day is the 25th July.
