Jesus’ Life: Chapter 17 – Jesus’ Last Supper Messages
Having listened to Jesus at the Last Supper telling them about the hatred they would soon receive, the forlorn eleven Apostles must have then been very pleased to hear Jesus promise them help, the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said to them, “I will send you from the Father – the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father – he will testify about me, and you also will testify because you have been with me from the beginning”. (John 15:26-27)
Jesus would not abandon the Apostles to face the world’s discord and hatred alone, He loved them.
Ten days after Jesus’ Ascension to Heaven, the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles; visually as tongues of fire but invisibly into their hearts and minds, bestowing on them multiple gifts and fruits including, a complete understanding of God’s light, Jesus’ teachings.
It’s good to know that we can also receive multiple gifts from the Holy Spirit through the Holy Sacraments. They are our defence against our personal challenges and enemies. (John 15:26-27)
Thought
In today’s world of much hatred, it surprises me to hear some faiths claim their “God” is a loving God but they do not advocate forgiveness nor love of their enemies!
Reflection
Lord Jesus, we pray for the persecuted and their persecutors. Help the poor sufferers and open the eyes of those who have become immune to the evil of their own sins.
Prayer: Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit
instructed the hearts of the faithful.
Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
