Parable Of The Two Sons

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 13 – Jesus’ Final Ministry In Jerusalem

Have you ever refused a special offer, only to later deeply regret not having accepted it?

There are probably many times in our life when we said, “No”, but with hindsight, wished we had said, “Yes”.

Selection sketch: Yes, No or Maybe

Jesus told the Parable of two sons. When they were asked by their father to work in his vineyard, one said, “No,” then reflected and went, while the other said “Yes,” but didn’t go.  Jesus then asked the crowd, “Which of the two did his father’s will?”

They answered, “The first”. You answered correctly, Jesus replied.

One of the messages Jesus was conveying in the parable was that it’s never too late in life to accept his teachings. As he pointed out to the crowd, many of them didn’t respond to John the Baptist’s message of repentance but tax collectors and prostitutes did and they “will go ahead of you into the kingdom of God”.

Jesus leaves the door open for us to enter, some do so immediately, others hesitate while yet others, refuse! (Matthew 21:28-32)

Thought

Does my “Yes” mean “Yes?” Have I said, “Yes” but fail to live by Jesus’ teachings?

Reflection

Lord Jesus, thank you for your message of hope when I fall. Grant me your blessing of perseverance, so, we will never be parted.

Prayer: Come Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.

Oh God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit
instructed the hearts of the faithful.
Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and
ever rejoice in His consolation.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
