Jesus’ Life: Chapter 14 – The Olivet Discourse
Technology intrigues me; even old cars; the stick type! The car was invented in 1886 by Karl Benz and is still going strong today; that’s over 140 years ago!
But do I need all those gears? Well, I miss some out now and again, especially on the way downhill, just as I do on my bicycle but maybe that’s OK!
Why? Well, I can’t say that I haven’t used all of the gears at some point, they keep me safe and maybe that’s my point; they are there for me to use when I need them; I am well prepared.
When talking about our day of death and judgement Jesus warned, “Be on your guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life… Stay alert at all times, praying that you may have strength… to stand before the Son of Man”.
Perhaps life can be compared to the gears in my car or bicycle. God blessed each of us with many talents and skills. He invited us to use them to live Jesus’ teachings, avoid temptations and remain in a state of grace, all in readiness to meet our maker on the last day. We may not use all of our blessings today, but we keep each at the ready so we don’t succumb to sin. (Matthew 25:13-15, Mark 13:33-37, Luke 21:34-36)

Lord Jesus, help me to live a life of prayer and remain in a state of readiness to meet your beloved Father, my God.
