Jesus’ Life: Chapter 11 – Jesus At The Feast Of Tabernacles (St John)
Jesus often said to his disciples and the crowds, “Whoever keeps my word will never see death,” but many didn’t believe Him.
When Jesus was being aggressively questioned by Jews at the Feast of Tabernacles and he used the same words, they accused him of being possessed by a demon. Jesus replied, “I am not possessed by a demon, but I honour my Father – and yet you dishonour me. I tell you the solemn truth, if anyone obeys my teaching, he will never see death”.
When the Jews then asked him if he had ever seen Abraham he replied, “I tell you the solemn truth, before Abraham came into existence, I am!”
The Jews were so incensed with Jesus that they picked up stones to throw at him but He hid and left the Temple area. (John 8:48-59)
Thought
The challenge to believe in Jesus’ word grew so much less when, on the third day, He rose from the dead. What more evidence could He possibly have given to us?
Reflection
Lord Jesus,
open the eyes of those still searching.
Help them to see, understand and accept.
May all, one day, celebrate in your glory.
