Prayer is Love, I want to Love

Jesus Glorified, New Commandment Of Love

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 16 – The Last Supper

As Judas left the room where the Apostles celebrated the Passover with Jesus, St John writes that many of the other Apostles didn’t understand why he was leaving. “Some thought that, because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him to buy whatever they needed for the feast, or to give something to the poor”.

Quote: "Joy of resurrection..."

Once departed, Jesus said to them, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him”. Jesus, although about to be betrayed by Judas, sounded relieved; announcing that his time had now come and He would be glorified through his death, resurrection and ascension into heaven.

Jesus then repeated what he had previously said to the Jewish Leaders, “Where I am going you cannot come”. St John Chrysostom compared this moment to when we must separate from our dearest friends saying, “[At such times] our affection is warmest, and the more so when we see them going to a place to which it is not even possible for us to go”.With a sense of impending physical separation, Jesus added,

Quote: The Joy of Life is Love

“I give you a new commandment – to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. Everyone will know by this that you are my disciples – if you have love for one another”.

Jesus’ comment implied a basic everyday expectation. If the Apostles couldn’t love one another, who would love them and accept his Gospel teachings! (John 13:31-35)

Thought

Do my daily actions reflect my words? Do I love everyone?

Reflection

Lord Jesus, strengthen my desire to love all my brothers and sisters throughout the world equally. Help me to overcome any bias against people of other dispositions. Lord hear my prayer.

Most Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore You.
Enlighten me, guide me, comfort me, console me.
I promise to submit myself to all You desire of me,
And permit all You wish to happen to me.
