Prayer is Love, I want to Love

The Withered Fig Tree

Extract

Withered Tree

When the disciples noticed that a fig tree Jesus cursed the previous day had withered, they commented on how quickly it had died.

Jesus replied, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, if someone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.” (Mark 11:22-23)

Thought

A fig tree bearing fruit was symbolic of prosperity and blessings. The withered tree, symbolic of the spiritual deadness that Jesus saw in Israel; leaders outwardly expressing holiness through their elaborate ceremony and posturing but, they were spiritually barren.

Reflection

Lord Jesus, guide me in your humble ways. Keep my eyes firmly fixed on you. Enlighten my spiritual weaknesses. Strengthen my faith.

Prayer: Abandonment (Charles de Foucauld)

Father, I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you;
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me.
I wish no more than this, O Lord.
Into your hands I commend my soul:
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands without reserve
and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father. Amen.
