When John the Baptist’s followers asked Jesus, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast”, his answer was, wedding guests cannot mourn while in the presence of the bridegroom. “But the days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast”. (Matthew 9:14b, 15b)
The Bridegroom that Jesus was symbolically referring to was himself.
Today, how will I show my love for you my God? A little extra fasting, sharing, helping, loving… perhaps!
Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to live a pure and holy life; obedient in all your ways. This I ask through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen
Prayer: Be at Peace (St Francis De Salle)
Do not look forward in fear to the changes in life;
rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise,
God, whose very own you are,
will lead you safely through all things;
and when you cannot stand it,
God will carry you in His arms.
Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;
the same understanding Father who cares for you today
will take care of you then and every day.
He will either shield you from suffering
or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace,
and put aside all anxious thoughts and imagination
