When people asked Jesus why his disciples didn’t fast like John’s disciples he said, “No one pours new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins will be destroyed. Instead, new wine is poured into new wineskins”. (Mark 2:22)
Thought
Was Jesus saying that his disciples were not yet strong enough to accept all of his teachings immediately?
Some point to these comments as, “A valuable lesson for the Christian Church, namely, to treat new converts with gentleness and consideration”.
Reflection
Lord Jesus, help me to see and celebrate the joy, wonder and awe in your people. Fill my heart with the desire to honour their beauty, your beauty.
Lord Jesus, bring peace to my heart.
