Extract
The Angel of God appeared to the women and told them to tell the disciples, “He [Jesus] has been raised from the dead. He is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there”. (Matthew 28:7)
“While they were going, some of the guards went into the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened. After they had assembled with the elders and formed a plan, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came at night and stole his body while we were asleep’”. (Matthew 28:11-13)
Thought
It’s interesting to note that the guards were initially honest. They went into the City of Jerusalem and told the Chief Priests everything that had happened; the earthquake, the Angel, the rolled stone and the empty tomb.
However, corrupt people used “a large sum of money” to corrupt them!
Reflection
Lord Jesus, help me to remain honest and humble in my ways as I celebrate your resurrection, the Risen Jesus.
Prayer: The Lord is My Shepherd
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in pastures green,
He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and kindness will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen.
