Jesus challenged the behaviour of the crowds gathered to hear him including, the Scribes and Pharisees saying, “…do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach”. (Matthew 23:3)
Jesus gave many examples of what he meant by “not practising what they preach” such as, expecting others to carry heavy loads but not lifting a finger to help!
It’s a simple reminder to us that sometimes talk can be cheap but work difficult!
Lord Jesus, diminish my pride and help me to see the work that I do today through the eyes of those around me. May I be neither conceited or arrogant but helpful and generous!
give us humility wherever pride reigns,
pardon wherever offence abides,
grace wherever sin abounds;
we pray to you;
Jesus Christ, risen Lord, have mercy on us. Amen.
