Jesus’ Discourse About The Bread Of Life (1)

Extract

Young Person receiving Holy Communion

When the hostile Jews complained to Jesus because He said He was “the Bread of Life” Jesus said to them:

“The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink… This is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the bread [manna] your ancestors ate [in the desert], but then later died. The one who eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6:54-55, 58)

Thought

During the Consecration at the Holy Mass, unleavened bread and wine are transformed (transubstantiation) into the flesh and blood of Jesus (although they retain the appearance of bread and wine).

Jesus is truly present in the Holy Eucharist and in our Church tabernacles.

Reflection

Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your most precious gift of Holy Communion. I truly believe that You are present in the Sacred Bread and Wine. Lead me, a sinner, to your banquet of eternal happiness.

Prayer: Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds, hide me.
Separated from Thee let me never be.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
At the hour of death, call me.
To come to Thee, bid me,
That I may praise Thee in the company
Of Thy Saints, for all eternity.
Amen.
