There are many links between the Old and New Testament including, the fulfilment of numerous prophecies.
Matthew starts his New Testament Gospel with the genealogy of Jesus, linking Abraham in the Old Testament, through more than forty generations to St Joseph, Jesus’ foster Father. The connection was the fulfilment of the promise God made to Abraham, that our Messiah would descend from him. (Matthew 1:1)
Many of the Old Testament prophecies were received by Divine intervention and through their fulfilment, the mystery of God has become clearer to us.
God, Our Almighty Father, we offer to you our heartfelt gratitude for sending Jesus your Son to redeem us. May our actions today, be a worthy reflection of our true love for you.
Prayer: Peace (Pope St John Paul II)
Mary, Queen of Peace,
save us all,
who have so much trust in you,
from wars, hatred and oppression.
Make us all learn to live in peace,
do what is demanded by justice
and respect the rights of every person,
so that peace may be firmly established. Amen.
