Eight days after the birth of John the Baptist, Elizabeth took him to be circumcised, as was Jewish custom.
Elizabeth insisted that the baby must be called John instead of Zechariah, after his father. When they asked Zechariah what he wanted his son to be called, Zechariah wrote on a tablet, “His name is John.” Immediately, Zechariah’s speech was restored. (Luke 1:63)
Let’s never forget the invisible power of God and be thankful for his many daily blessings.
Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to listen to your word and persevere in my efforts to do as you ask.
A Prayer – Perseverance (St Alphonsus Liguori)
Our Dear Redeemer,
relying on your promises,
because you are faithful, all-powerful and merciful,
we hope, through the merits of your Passion,
for the forgiveness of our sins,
perseverance until death in your grace;
and at length, we hope, by your mercy,
to see and love you eternally in heaven.
