Jesus said to His disciples, “Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. (Matthew 6:19-21)
Jesus was probably referring to fine garments often embroidered with silver and gold, sumptuous food supplies and jewels, all wealth icons in His time.
The garments could be easily destroyed by moths, food by microbes and vermin, and jewels at the risk of thieves.
Today our wealth icons may have changed but, whatever they are, they still have no value in heaven unless shared with others!
Lord Jesus, hasten my resolve to build a rich treasure in heaven and gain everlasting joy among the Angels and Saints who listened to your voice.
Prayer: Let Nothing Disturb You (St Teresa of Avila)
Let nothing disturb you,
let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing,
God never changes.
attains all things.
Whom God possesses,
nothing is wanting.
Alone God suffices.
