Feast of Pentecost

Fifty Days After Jesus’ Resurrection

Story: Today is the Feast of Pentecost; the day when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples.

The disciples were gathered together in the same room when a noise, like a swirling wind, filled it. “Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them.”

The disciples were filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Instead of being fearful and reserved, they now had the courage, energy, knowledge and understanding of the mysteries of the Gospel, to continue Jesus’ preaching and teaching.

Gifts-of-the-Holy-SpiritThe disciples immediately went outside to meet the assembled people, who had gathered at the sound, and started preaching. Amazingly, each person in the crowd was able to hear them in their own language.

Are the disciples not Galileans, the crowd commented? Yet each of us, from our many nations, hear them in our native tongue!

Thought: Allowing the Holy Spirit to take charge of our lives, brings fullness and holiness.

PrayerHoly Spirit
Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit
instructed the hearts of the faithful.
Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Look, Listen and Reflect: You Raise Me Up
